What is

a disciple?

In Matthew 4 it says: “As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.” Our mission is multiplying diverse disciples and churches. This scripture is an example of that happening in real time.

A disciple is someone who knows, loves, and follows Jesus and leads others to do the same. Our vision is to see every neighborhood, nation, and generation transformed by the love of Jesus. Our church family follows our discipleship rhythms in order to live out this mission and to see our vision come to life.

Living as disciples

of Jesus.

These discipleship rhythms are not a one-time, step by step list to follow but an ongoing process that flows and changes with our various seasons of life.

  • Surrender to the Gospel.

Ephesians 2:8-10 says: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

We believe that following Jesus begins with surrender. When you surrender your life to Jesus, you acknowledge that it is by grace, through faith, that you have been saved. If you’ve made this decision, a great next step for you may be getting baptized. Baptism is simply an outward expression of what Christ has done in your heart!

  • Gather in worship.

Hebrews 10:24-25 says: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

As disciples of Jesus, we gather in worship. What does this look like practically? We have our weekly Sunday Gatherings and offer various Gather Nights throughout the year. We also have intentional spaces for the Next Generation to gather as well!

  • Grow in community.

2 Peter 1:5-8 says this: “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

As disciples of Jesus, we want to grow in community. We practice this by offering classes during the year, share discipleship resources, join small groups, and share meals together. If you feel called to this rhythm, a great next step for you is joining a group! We have small groups that meet all across the city for various demographics in our community. We have kid friendly groups, young family groups, a group for students, and more!

  • Give our lives away.

1 Peter 4:10 says: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” As disciples of Jesus, we want to give our lives away. What does this mean for us? We offer our time, talents, and treasures to the Lord. This may be through serving in a ministry area at the church or giving a financial gift.

    oH Serve Teams

Joining a Serve Team is a great way to build relationships, get connected with our community, and an opportunity to use your gifts! We have several different serving teams for people with different skills and from various backgrounds.

  • Go to 68104 and beyond.

Acts 1:8 says: “But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

As disciples of Jesus, we go and share the Good News. How do we do this? By knowing our story of how the hope of Jesus changed everything for us and sharing that story with others. We want to share the hope and love of Jesus with our neighbors, community, and city. We’re intentional about inviting others into the community of One Hope Family.

Another way we live out the rhythm of going is by supporting organizations who are making a local or global impact! We have come alongside those who are on mission to bring about God’s restoration in our city and throughout the world.
